Hi guys

This is really getting annoying. Ever since Scotrail have introduced their chip n pin system on their trains, they never accept my cards. The machines always rejects them. Even though they used to accpt them when it was the old check and sign system. Its just crazy that now I have to make sure I have cash every time I purchase my weekly ticket. I always try to use cash as little as possible, only use my card these days. But sometimes I forget cash to buy my weekly. I had a wee guy at the check point in Glasgow Central not letting me through without a ticket, but their machines wouldnt accept the cards, I explained this to him and I said I need to go up to the ticket office to get my weekly as their machine accepts my cards, but he still wouldnt let me past. (Small man syndrom I think :P ) so had to use another gate where a sensible ticket inspector was. I just hate Scotrail even more now. Not only do I have to be crushed in a train to work, and keep paying rising prices for the privelege, now I have to go out of my way to get cash because their technology isnt up to scratch... Grrrrr!! Sorry for the rant, I dont expect any replies from this novel I have just wrote, just wanted to share my anger :P lol!!

Thanks for listening

  • How about changing your cards for ones that they will accept?
  • Is it their chip n pin or your card that might be faulty, might be worth asking your bank for a new card and trying again (have some cash just incase it doesn't work)

Thats probably something they would say? Why should I have to do that? Why don't they put the money into getting a proper system? Every other outlet accepts my cards. Its not just Clydesdale Maestro, it also Natwest Visa Debit cards, someone was telling me this as they dont accept their card either.

My card is fine. It works EVERYWHERE I go apart from Scotrail chip n pin system on the train and the check points, works fine at the tickets offices. Its a known issue, trust me....

Why should they pay to change their system? £10 of your cash is £10 to them. £10 on a card and it costs them. My guess is they are happier to take you cash than you are to pay that way.;)

But what if other outlets took that view? Maybe supermarkets etc? How can every other place in the country have the right system, but they cannot? Why am I paying more money every year, but they are going backward?

I never doubted you for one minute , how about one of those Prepaid Visa debt cards, like this one from paypal put a wee direct debit of your monthly train costs on it every month and hopefully your good to go.

Then again won't it be easier and cheaper to just buy a monthly season ticket.

They do, not everyone accepts American Express, so I use my Mastercard. (Maybe I should start a thread on that.) I'm sure I'm not the only one in that position, just deal with it or don't use them if it bothers you that much.

I know there is work arounds, I am just letting off steam that they are just rubbish! lol! For years I used my card on the train with ther old check and sign system, but now I have to go out my way for them to suit their new inadequate systems. Even the ticket guys think its ridiculous. As I said, just letting off steam, lol!

Come on, theres a difference between American Express and a high street banks maestro card!! Lots of places dont accept American Express, I wouldnt be moaning if I was being refused using an American Express card. Silly argument :p
