As a seller, there is no way in hell I will just accept a buyers word that there is damage

Simple enough; just send them photographs, or get them to send the wheels only. Good customer service goes a long way.

I wouldn't be re-imbursing you for the fact you decided to pay someone to put the wheels and pedals on and turn the handlebars round because that is something you should have done yourself.

Have they asked for that cost to be reimbursed? I think the point is that they don't want to simply receive a new disassembled bike because they would have to pay that money again through no fault of their own.

I also don't think it's for us to judge whether they should have a professional assemble the bike; we know nothing about the OP's circumstances, and perhaps they felt more comfortable with a professional building it to ensure their son's safety.

It would be simpler if they could send a picture of the problem, or perhaps just return the buckled wheels.

This is very true. A good seller will always see the situation from the buyer's point of view as well as their own and then find a solution to suit everyone.

Just a thought, but how do you know the bike assembler wasn't just trying to raise more business and the wheels where infact fine?

You really need to see someone about those daft, paranoid thoughts that bounce around that cavern on your shoulders.

You've obviously had the luck of having only honest tradesmen; car repairers who do only the work that's necessary; PC World staff who advice you to get a free antivirus and to avoid McAfee; and second hand car salesmen who you can trust to give you a good deal.

    Maybe so.

Anyway if could be worth looking into the company/person.

With that I will admit I don't know much about these things but did the wheels look fine when you handed it over, I am not saying you should use massively buckled wheels but its not uncommon for wheels to get slightly buckled during use anyway, to which you could pay for new wheels and the end up slightly out the first time you son bumps it up a curb.

How much are said new wheels too?

Best idea at this stage would be to send a formal letter to eBay and outline everything that has occured, and attach and refer to copies of communications from eBay. It wouldn't hurt to have photos or evidence of the fault as well, such as having the professional provide a letter of support since it is his word you are going on that there is even a fault.

LOL, are you that same person who insulted the mother because she wasn't comfortable with strangers having access to pictures of her young son? You have the same sanctimonious tone as that person in any case! You don't know why the OP wanted to have a professional assemble the bike, so you're not really in a position to judge them for it.

I missed that thread, but it sounds like that mother has an irrational fear and worries too much.

Sure I agree, but I've never known a mother without irrational fears - and it didn't answer her question to say so ;)

She just wanted to know where she stood in the case of a warranty claim on an electronic picture frame full of personal photos. I think telling someone in response that they are a terrible mother and "I feel sorry for your children" oversteps the line of helpfulness.
