Pet Insurance

Hi All,

I have just cancelled my cat's pet insurance with Tesco as they put it up this year by over 50% and I can get it lots cheaper with many other providers. I was just wondering if anyone had experience of pet insurance with Argos as they are coming out cheapest.

Also, it says on Quidco at the minute that they are offering £50 cashback, however when you click through, it just mentions the online offer and not the cashback (like it normally does). Anyone tried this and know whether it works or not.
I would only take it out with Sainsburys if the cashback is likely to work as it's slightly more expensive.

Thanks :-)
Finally, debt free for the first time since I was 18!:D

  • I work in pet insurance, do not look at the cheapest, they all offer different things, e.g some offer £1,000 each year for each illness, others offer £1,000 for the illness, and when this is used up you will not be able to claim any more for that illness ever. Don't look at cheapest, look at age of your pet, are they old, and likely to be ok, or a young pet that goes out, and may get involved in an accident. Please with pet insurance consider everything, as a lot of people don't read their policies carefully and end up very upset. Thanks.

  • I would agree that going with the cheapest maight not be the best idea. I used to be with Petplan - they were very good, paying out over £4000 when our Rottie needed his cruciate ligaments doing, something I would not have been able to have afforded otherwise.

I looked into this and found the cheapest plans only pay out for a year (you need to renew them and pre-existing conditions aren't covered next year).

The more expensive ones paid for the life of condition (mind you, none of them guarantees to keep the same price forever by the way).

I was intrigued that Argos Platinum was a lot cheaper than the other for-life policies (£15 pcm rather than £25) and the price was more comparable with the annual ones.

After checking the internet reviews and positive feedback for Argos I went for it- haven't had to put it to the test though and I hope that's a long time coming. Do check for yourself.

The other Argos policies were just annual ones and I think they're a false economy
