Sorry, was just letting you know - only trying to help.

Thorsoak - there's a little bit more info on the Saga site but again it's quite vague and just say what you may be entilted to in terms of Serps.

Is there a CAB near you that someone could visit for you, they might be able to give more concrete figures?

CAB has a waiting list of 4-6 weeks  On Tueday I had a visit from the DWP themselves ...the guy apologised for the fact that all he could do was collect "facts" - re Attendance Allowance & fill in a form which MAY be used if it transpires that I am entitled to Pension Credit ....but he had no figures - he said at one time, he would have had them at his fingertips before coming to see me - but because of "rationalisation" he only deals with one piece of the jigsaw.

On the figures of £132 per week - OH's DWP pension was in excess of £149 per week - I receive £55 + private pension of £200 per month - so it doesn't look as if I'll receive much of OH's pension, does it? Oh well - better look for work at Tescos/Asdas/ B& Q!

When you say DWP pension, do you mean the state pension or did he work for the DWP?

I didn't mean to depress you about the pension credit - it was only intended to be a bottom line.

ETA. I don't know your housing situation, but pension credit would guarantee your getting HB/LHA/CTB.

Sorry - mean state pension - just that it shows on bank statements as DWP pension!
  • Oh dear, I'm sorry you haven't had much help trying to sort it out. I didn't reliase the CAB wait was quite so long at the moment.

There are a few calculators to work out what you'd be entilted to (in terms of benefits) based on your own income: it might give you an idea of what sort of income levels you'd be looking at.

If you do end up being entilted to the guarantee part of Pension Credit I think it guarentees you help with housing benefit (if applicable) and Council Tax.

No - won't get any form of housing benefit - we were lucky enough to be able to pay off our mortgage when we bought this property outright. However, due to the timing of our sale we had to take an enormous drop just as we signed contracts or our buyer would pull out - took a deep breath and swallowed it - but it did mean that the suchion that we had factored in for our retirement was pulled from under us - but we could move - and that's one thing I'll never regret.

    Thanks for your help.

Just heard today what my pension will be ....I think! I understand what it will be from 5th April, but am still not certain whether what they are saying will apply from 7th March onwards or whether on 7th March I will receive it!

Not megabucks - so unless anything else turns up (I've done with top jobs, don't want responsibility any more) Asda/B&Q/Tescos ......here I come!
