Renting a pub?

Wherever you`re thinking of renting a pub, just make sure there isn`t a Wetherspoons in the same place or you`ll be shut before you`re open.
There are a lot easier things to do than run a pub in these times such as, human cannonball, kamikazi pilot, etc. :rotfl:
Maybe your CCJ is a blessing in disguise.0 -
dazco , you have obviously never run a pub !
you do realise you have to apply to your local licensing department at the council to recieve a full licence dont you ?
and beleive me it is more than £200.
the link you have given is for the qualification that you need BEFORE applying to your local authority.
the FULL licence requires council and police approval and a visit to magistrates , and when issued , lasts for 10 years.
please give full info or dont bother mate !:beer:we all have bad days , some more than others ..................0 -

Are you now, and/or have you ever been a pub landlord or manager? Have you got any training in running one & can you get hold of any? Do phrases like brewlines, stocktakers reports, accountancy & VAT seem familiar & reassuring or new & awkward?
Great advice, my mum works for the CAB and has had a load of pub landlords recently with loads of experience who have gone underAnna :beer:0 -

And costs about £37. Sorry , left it out.
Now I have shown that it does not cost £1000, please will you now waste your time and show us how it possibly CAN cost £1000

I am not just arguing with you for the sake of it here, this is a serious question.
Without knowing how many barrels the pub sells, what the tie is (if any), what staff is needed, what the rent is, the terms of the lease and many other variables how can you say it is Kamikaze?
People still drink in pubs, some are doing tremendously well, and many people eat out at pubs.
Pubs in London change hands for over a million pounds. Kamikaze?
A pub is simply a business and without knowing all the facts, which we don't, it is ludicrous to say it is Kamikaze.S!!!!horpe0 -
I would find a current pub landlord/landlady who might offer you some unbiased advice, when I ran a pub the profit on each pint was roughly 20p, (2004) You have to sell an awful lot of pints to earn money when you have taken into account your staff, rent, utilities, barrels, wines, spirits etc etc.
I was also a manager on £1000.00 a week, rent and utility free, when I had paid my barstaff, cleaner, chef I had £40 a week left to myself!!
My friend has a pub and pays £960.00 a week rent!
It can be successful but its blood hard work and ask your friends how many of them popped into the pub on a weekday evening, or during the day... It won't be many
Good Luck
Also... a personal licence isn't needed to work in a pub any more as it was when the law changed.
You can be a pub manager but you cannot be a licensee without going through the court. And a CRB is £39.000 -

I got advised the CRB was cheaper BUT it was done through Scotland so maybe it is a money saving loophole.
The two examples you give show at least one very bad contract. The £960 per week is meaningless unless you give some indication of how well the pub is doing.S!!!!horpe0 -
£960 a week is £50K a year, given the size of most pubs that sounds like a bargain to me!0
