Confused about NCD options

I have been discussing something with my husband, and we cant agree, hoping someone will be able to advise! These are the facts!
I currently have 2 years NCD.
My insurance renewal (fully comp) is about 24th June each year.
On 9th July 2010 i had an accident, which will result in my NCD being removed on renewal.
I have not had an accident/claim since then.
On renewal, i will have driven more or less 11 months claim free. Obviously at renewal on 24th June 2011, i wont have earnt a years NCD, but it seems a bit unfair that i will have to wait 23 months (24th June 2012) to get 1 years NCD.
The debate is, if i switched from DL to a month by month insurance for 2 months, could i then buy an annual policy and have it count as a years NCD, as it will be over 12 months since the accident?
Or will it have to be 12months with the same insurer, in which case could i try and persuade DL to extend my insurance for 2 months to get up to 12 months NCD, and then do a full year policy?
Thoughts?
Thank you!

When you arrange any new Insurance, it is the NCD proof that is provided by the previous Insurers that is relevant. So if you were to do as your propose in your post, DL would issue a NCD proof letter showing nil years.
Yes it is always a bit annoying to have needed to claim so early in the policy year and then have wait to have a years no claims free experience to be added. Bu that is the way the system works. It is not years based on calendar, but Insurance policy years that is relevant.
If you cancel policies mid term, this can prove pretty expensive, so I would suggest you check the cancellation terms. Also month by month Insurance is not that cheap either. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

Neither of these options will work:
If you leave DL at the end of your policy and go elsewhere for just 2 months, you will end up with nil NCD as you will have NIL from DL to hand over to a new insurer, (and NCD isn't given on month by month insurance anyway).
And DL just will not extend your policy year to 14 months to grant you a year without claiming (months 3 to 14!)0 -
Yes, as i suspected. Very annoying esp as the two claims that took me down to 0 were a stolen recovered (keys taken during burglary), and a crash caused by mechanical failure which the insurers wouldnt take up with Ford as too hard to prove, so both down as fault claims but not really my fault.
Well, it looks then like it might be my best bet to move elsewhere at renewal time, for a bonus accelerator policy- 8 months to get a years NCD.
Unless anyone had any other ideas!?Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!
