Suggestion to the OP: Why not call the police yourself? You've got a case of attempted fraud here, which should be reported by someone and you may find that the money shop guy is reassured by you being able to say "I've reported it to the police, here's the crime number." At the very least it'll reassure him you're not part of the scam.0
