Any Free Anti-Virus for Charity / NFP Use?
Options
Hello.
I do IT support for a not-for-profit organisation and we want to provide a number of PCs for local residents to use. Naturally, we need to put anti-virus software on these PCs and I am finding that the free versions of such software are for "home / personal use only" and usually "on one PC".
However, to keep costs down I would rather not have to buy a product which is otherwise being offered for free. I'm not talking about full "Internet Security" solutions, just basic anti-virus protection.
Does anyone know of any decent free anti-virus software whose EULA allows for use by charities and not-for-profit organisations, and ideally on more than one PC.
Many thanks for any suggestions.

There are only two categories of use with MSE - "home use" and "small business". The former allows you to install the software for use by people who reside in your household, and excludes use in any commercial, non-profit or revenue generating business activities. So I guess the product would have to be licensed for "small business" use, which allows you to install and use the software on up to 10 devices.BargainGalore wrote: »Avast

Avast wouldn't be suitable as it's only free for "personal and non-commercial use", and installing the software for others to use as part of the activities of a non-profit organisation probably wouldn't be considered "personal" use.I 100% recommend AVG Free. AVG Free definitely isn't suitable!
It states that it is licensed for "private, non-commercial, single home computer use only" and that use "within any organization or for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited".0 -
Quite right, none of the products mentioned so far seems to be suitable. The FAQs on Avast's site clarify "commercial" as meaning "ANY work done for a commercial aim (money is not the only issue, nor is profit so, for instance, non-profit charity work would be commercial in nature.)"0

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'll have a look into them.0
