in Credit cards
well as the title says really...
a few weeks ago we went to get assesed for a mortage and were told we didnt have a strong enough credit score as we had never had credit before. so last week we went back to the same bank (i have banked with them for years) and i had been preselected for a credit card years agos but always said no as i thought what do i need credit for. anyway we went through the process and the computer had it issues when the card was being applyed for so the personal banker that we always see said it would of gone through and not to worry.
fast forward a week today get home i had 4 of the same letter sorry declined for a credit card! what?!! why 4 letters so i called the bank and said what on earth is going on? turns out 2 days later they re applyed for a card ( a total of 5 applications) and i had been declined for all of them with a effect on my credit rating
apparently i have to go to the branch tomorrow and get them to sort it out. now i am livid and quite scared about the effect on my credit rating.
what would you do in my position?
*should i demand a gesture of good will?
*leave the bank?
*cry?
please help any advice would be massively greatful! thanks

What bank is it?
1. Make them promise to put everything back how it was pre mistake i.e. no searches recorded on your credit file.
2. Get this in writing. If they refuse, put your complaint in writing to them.
3. Ask politely for a goodwill gesture, pointing out that their mistake could cost you the chance of getting a mortgage.
4. Plan to leave the bank for good.Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard0 -
If each application left a separate footprint (credit search) on your credit file this will have a severely adverse effect on your credit worthiness, in which case you need to raise a "Notice of Dispute" with the respective credit reference agency disputing the searches advising you only permitted one.
They will then verify this with the bank and remove the superfluous credit search footptint form your file.
It is most likely they used Experian, but may have also used Equifax if you bank with RBS Group (Natwest etc) or HSBC - so check both!
Also raise a written complaint to the bank advising them that you expect all the superfluous searches removed from your credit files, and expect the personal banker who committed fraud and breach of DPA to be investigated re: his suitability to be dealing with customer accounts.
Good luck!

It may just be a system glitch no evidence of fraud on the personal bankers side, although if they wont accept you for a card you need to try subprime.0
