Hi Hon,
Dont listen to your vet - we have four woofs, 3 of whom are over 13 yrs and they are all on metacam, to buy from my vet would cost circa £100 a time - I buy from vetuk for £45.00 all I have to pay the vet is £6 for the script. They want you to buy from them because of the huge mark ups (I know they have surgeries to run but its not very MSE :0). There is a limit as to how mucht hey can charge you for the prescription - I would seriously look into it :0)My post count doesn't reflect the amount of time spent on here :0) I just keep forgetting my login details - now saved.0 -
I'm curious that £50/month is the cheapest you can get for landline+broadband - Plusnet do line rental for £12/m, and broadband for £13/m if you have line rental with them (that's the rural price - cheaper in cities), is that not available for some reason?0

In some rural areas it is very possible that the only broadband available is IPstream... unfortunately this is the most expensive type of BB - The whole things from one end to the other is pretty much owned by BT so no room for other providers to deliver it much cheaper to be honest... This isn't so much location based but depends on if the local exchange was financially viable to convert to LLU for a provider or not. Ie are there enough users to warrent the upgrade which isn't cheap... And if the house is far away from the exchange the line quality might not be good enough to support anything else anyway...
OP - if the vet is trying to guilt you into buying your meds online then change vets - yes they have to make a living too but on the otherhand they would probably rather your dog actually got treated than not...
A negative... if you are buying things to reseller you HAVE to make sure you do so as registered SE - you need to declare your income or you could get hit with a large tax bill and fine...
STOP subsidising your daughter - my parents stopped subsidising me when I was 17 (bar a present for my wedding) but my step siblings who are in their mid 30's STILL call asking for money nearly every month... The biggest help you can be to her is by supporting her and advising her, NOT by subsidising her...
Groceries can come down to £100 per month for you and a dog too... visit the Old style board for help and ideasDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
RAS, the credit card was a fairly recent one, ridiculous rate of interest but intended to have it for emergency use. Unfortunately, my dog had to have a major operation.
Well, the good news is that there are potential savings you can make there.0 -
You're struggling with debt and cash flow and you have a dog? Which needs not just feeding but vet bills?
Well, the good news is that there are potential savings you can make there.
My dog is almost 11. She has been with me through the worst period of my life and has been the only reason for getting up on a morning on many occasions. I had my dog before debt/money problems.
Frankly, I might as well put a bullet in my head if I thought she had to be given up. As it is, she probably doesn't have much time left.
I'm not giving up my dog.0 -
Looked through your SOA again, if you get groceries etc. down to £70 (I expect that's reasonably possible...others to confirm?) your expenditure and debt repayments are covered by income and benefits, without eBay selling included. Hopefully that's encouraging, as then you wouldn't be relying on unpredictable eBay sales for day to day stuff0

Good for you Byatt, looking after your old dog, may she be with you for a lot longer! An animal is for life, not just for Christmas, as they say.;)
I would second the comment re your vet putting you off buying petmeds online, I have a diabetic cat and whilst I don't buy insulin online (it's too fragile to be sent by post) I do buy other medication, syringes and specialist food, the saving is in the region of 34%!
Good luck with getting yourself on track.0 -
I agree with the "not just for Christmas" point. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without turkey.0

Clarie, I know. It comes from trying to make up for a dad who is pretty useless. But I am trying to change that, and also encourage her with MSE ideas.
natlai, thank you for that tip, I have looked online and it appears I can make a claim. I had no idea!
Myrtle, thanks, I looked online for one of her meds and there is a huge difference! I have decided to change my vet. The other motivation is that I have to travel to my vet (I've been with her since she set up, but last year let me down regarding the op my dog had. She totally missed removing the lump I was most concerned about) and there is a vet nearer, by 8 miles.
mdr86, that figure included my BT vision which I have cancelled w.e.f. now. I double checked my line rental and broadband, and it is £13 and £14 respectively. And I will certainly try and get my groceries down to £70; certainly worth a try. I've spent a £105 on groceries etc this past week (had to stock up on some cupboard staples which will last a long time), and I hope to make it last 6 weeks! I will be completing my menus for the month with what I now have.
MrsTine, you are spot on about BT and my area. I am going to change vets, this thread has been the motivator to do it. (I felt I was being disloyal, it's a relatively small community). I am declaring my income, thank you for the advice though. I know, I MUST stop subsidising my daughter; I was never subsidised, in fact I did the subsidising even then! The opposite of the coin, which has helped me end up where I am. Thank you for your help.
chrissie52, thank you for your support!
G_M, what can I say?! LOL.0
