Also if everybody could use the ticket offices more it will save jobs. Don't queue up on ticket machines, queue up at the ticket office. Also if you want a reciept you can always ask for one while buying any product from the ticket office. It's no good asking for one later or at another station once one has been brought from a machine. As they cannot be given after the next person has been served

No problem - as long as Tube staff agree that if we all start using ticket offices, they stop the CONSTANT strike action... :rotfl:

This made me laugh. Perhaps the staff shouldn't go on strike then, a machine, to my knowledge has never done such a thing.

Why would I want someone's job to be saved when a machine can do it cheaper? Thus reducing the need for fare increases.

What is your job? Could a machine do that cheaper too?

Not quite everybody. There is no point queueing up at a ticket office if there is no one inside! South Woodford tube station - Friday 11th Feb 9:50am - both ticket offices were closed.

I'm a Pharmacy student, so when I graduate yes a machine probably could do most of my everyday tasks, however a qualified human being is legally required to do them instead. :p

I think from your earlier arrogant and insensitive comments you may get your degree and become qualified but fail the human being requirement.

What, you've never had a computer crash on you? Or a photocopier go on the fritz just when you REALLY need that photocopy? (How does it know?!) Or perhaps a mechanical failure on a bus or train? Sorry but I find that hard to believe! :)

It is no surprise to me that there's £30M sloshing around in a Capita account (yes it is they who administer Oystercard is it not?). I must have had around a dozen Oystercards and have perhaps had refunds of deposits on three or four.

The rules on obtaining refunded deposits have been obstructive and deliberately so I have thought on a number of occasions.

The next thing we will be told is that the opportunity for refund will expire on the basis that they gave us ample opportunity in 2011 to claim money back if we wanted it on 'inactive' cards.

What about inactive balances on cards which have been "locked" for various Auto-TopUp misdemeanours like failing to update credit card details when they expire resulting in a declined £20 Auto-TopUp and a locked card which still has a £5 or £8 balance on it and the cardholder being treated like a debt-defaulter?

Never mind £30M, I bet there's another £100M sloshing around in another account containing currently unusable credit balances created like that.

It is sickening how the people that run these systems are constantly creating opportunities and smoke screens for "skimming off" hidden amounts on the strength of "inactivity", "payment default", "card deposit" and the like - it is pure "parting of fools and their money" type territory.

Oh and don't get me going ... (you have :p) ... What about the tens of £Ms Oyster have deducted and only refunded on immediate personal demand when customers have forgotten to touch in or out, or the machine or the system simply wasn't working properly? £4 a time that has been for some years and recently hiked I think. How many people ever even notice? It's probably about the same proportion who realise that on every weekly shopping bill at the supermarket there is usually at least one or more overcharges I reckon ... i.e. a tiny fraction of the customer base.

The Oyster system is every bit as bad as Ryanair's jolly wheezes for unexpected charges and fees ... the only redeeming factor is the artificial massive differential between using Oyster and not.
