DVLA - how long do I wait?

Bought a used car in private deal at the end of January, and the registration document was sent the same day by recorded delivery, and was signed for the next day at DVLA, and Royal Mail have copy of signature.
The problem is that the green slip which should have been retained by me was also sent (wasn't detached from main form).
Now coming to the end of week three since it was sent, but no sign of it being returned.
How long do I wait, what should I do if not received, and DLVA deny all knowledge of the letter.

well green slip should be retained for this very reason.

If it hasn't turned up in 3 more weeks then apply for a new V5, form from post office probably.

I realise that not retaining the green slip was the big error, but the letter was signed for by the DLVA. Seems to be the case that regardless of how it is sent, or signed for, the sender is liable, and the DVLA never to blame.

What is the "average" time for a return. Am I being a bit to impatient.

If I have to get a new V5C will it be in the previous keepers name or can I get it in my name.

Phone them and ask them if they've received it. It'll put your mind at rest.

Phone them, can take 6 weeks and in some case more than 6 weeks. Make sure you have declared it SORN if it is not taxed.
  • logbook says upto six weeks trunaround. If they signed for it, it will come... complete v62 (you can download one from dvla website) there wont be a charge as you can prove it was signed for by them.
  • We bought a motorbike in January and exported it to Guernsey.

Because OH didn't realise he needed a cert of export from customs when it was exported, we needed to apply for one from the DVLA now.............

The completed form was sent off last Monday (from Guernsey) and the completed export form was received back from the DVLA on the Wednesday!

To say we were shocked and impressed is an understatement - so they can be quick at some things!

Well, phoned yesterday - three weeks since they signed for the letter.
Spoke to a not very pleasant person, probably harassed with similar questions.

Still not on system so can't give a status. If DVLA signed for it we have it, and you will eventually get it. We handle more mail than the whole of London. Phone back in another three weeks if not received.
