Barclays bank - fraud accounts

I paid money into a Barclays bank account back in 2008 for a car that I never received. I have since discovered; after speaking to an Adjudicator for the Financial Ombudsman, that the account I paid my money into was a fraud account which Barclays froze soon after my payment was made. Following further investigation I have learnt that the monies have since been transferred to a Suspense Account within Barclays
  • On Barclays advice I have taken a Court Order out against the account holder; only for this to be refused as the monies were no longer in the account.
  • I have taken further legal advice and have been advised to issue a Third Party Debt Order to retrieve my money from the suspense account, however without knowing the account name/number I cannot issue. Barclays or the Financial Ombudsman will not divulge this information.
  • The payment was paid into the Barclays account via Chaps Payment and the Financial Ombudsman are saying that their rules only consider complaints where the consumer is the true owner entitled to immediate possession of a cheque or the funds it represents. Surely wherever you go you are a customer and these days payments are made by electronic transfer and cheques are not acceptable in various organisations. By paying by Chaps payment I thought that it was more secure than paying actual cash which I wouldn't have done into someone's account.

I am now getting to stage where I have gone down every avenue to try and retrieve my money and with no help from Barclays or the Financial Ombudsman. I have been advised that monies left in suspense accounts are indefinate so I will not be able to gain access to monies that are mine. No wonder Barclays are in the news today recording profits of £6 billion profiting of people like myself.
