There ..just my point. Wouldn't it have been simpler to just put all that in the original post?

Even I get confused about my status when posting here because despite my desire to keep my finances seperate they have obvious implications for each other e/g i dip into my uk savings when i dont want to release some asset that i see as more preferable in Turkey- i buy gold regularly*which i use as a hedge against the turkish lira because it takes away some of the currency exposure- if i transfered thIs chunk of money i would probably invest a sizeable amount of it in gold thus negating part of what vt says = I moved some uk funds this time for the car because the exchange rate was appealing.

Gold is easy to buy here and is safer than the local currency and the buying premimum is just 2pc --its just storing and security that is an issue--i bought a 'mother' load last july and secured it in a bullion vault which costs rental but its value has increased 20pc in 6 months---and it was money i transfered from the uk so it barely touched the local currency-
    mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.

I'm going to back out of this discussion very very slowly, being careful not to make any sudden noises . . . .
