carers Allowance Help.

Is it correct that person A who is married to person B can claim full time carers allowance for looking after person B where person B is a full time mature student? Person B who supposedly needs the care is either at university or in the student union getting p****d (including most of the weekend).

Not my area of expertise and am bemused as to how this is possible? Or is it just another screw up in our benefits system?

They also get i believe CTB, IS and Tax Credits between. (Family with one child still at school).

if person B is getting DLA at either middle or high rate care, then person A can claim carers allowance if they provide at least 35 hours of care a week.

You make many assumptions. My assumption is that in reality, you know very little about their situation ... :p

Full-time students generally don't have more than 12-15 contact hours per week.

No (and that's not me biting):p. Actually it's my in-laws who owe my other half several thousand pounds and have no intention of paying it back. FYI they're also on a DMP and also have another daughter at home who's 18 and charge her £100 a week to live there (only earning £150 a week).

Just pains me that I pay £1200 a month tax and Ni to fund their lifestyle so no assumptions made. Just wanted to know peoples thoughts and find out a little bit more.

And he doesn't need care. He's an alcoholic who has a 3 year driving ban for crashing into a young family whilst drunk and lost his job...

Clearly someone with far more expertise has decided that he does need care ... or are you a doctor now?

No I'm not a doctor otherwise I'd be paying even more tax and NI towards our wonderful benefit system.

However if he needs that much care for being an alcoholic how on earth can he cope with a Psychology Degree????

Obviously you're one of those people who would rather pass comment on the poster rather than adding any valued comments to the question. It's funny but there's one on every board.

Nannytone answered your question about getting Carer's Allowance. DLA is not an out of work benefit so you can work/study and still receive it.
If you believe that this person is falsely claiming DLA then you can report him for benefits fraud. Otherwise I'm not sure what else you're looking for?

Well it's family so obviously quite a bit. Just makes me sick when they say to my other half that mother doesn't need to work because of everything they claim (inc the careres allowance) and yet they are on a debt management plan and have a £150k mortgage.

It doesn't stack up in my eyes but then I've worked hard to get to where I am now and my partner took quite a few years to pay back money they took from her.

Don't need a character assissination thanks. If people asked questions then I would have answered and maybe then I could have learnt a thing or two about an area that I've had no experience of.
