Nice hotel/spa in Bath?

Options
Can you recommend a nice hotel/spa(not very expensive) in Bath or the area just for a short 2-3 days' break. Planning to go there next week but not sure as I haven't been before.Everyone says the city is famous with its mineral water so though it'll be a good idea for a short and relaxing break.
Thanks!

I'm from near Bath. You'll love it. Don't know any hotels though, sorry.

I live 12 miles away so have no idea. I don't even go there to shop these days as its packed full of jap tourists and the road system and car parking are designed to annoy the motorist.

  • The last time I went to Bath for the weekend we stayed at the Hilton which although is modern and not particularly attractive from the outside was clean and the rooms were great. It is right in the centre so you can shop and drop! We had 2 nights b and b on an offer that included dinner on the first night and it was very good value!
  • There is this one: http://www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/bathspa/
    But it is expensive!

Four Pillars Tortworth Court -http://tortworth-court-hotel.four-pillars.co.uk/ - is 30 miles away, according to AA map - haven't been there yet, going next weekend.

The only genuine natural spa in Bath is the Thermae Bath Spa - http://www.thermaebathspa.com/ although some of the hotels have spa type facilities with steam rooms etc. If you can get booked in there you can then take your pick of the other hotels - even the budget ones.

If you want a hotel with its own spa facilites you'll probably have to look at the Bath Spa, the Bath Priory or the Royal Crescent Hotels - which are probably the three most expensive hotels in Bath, with the first two being a fair walk from the centre, and even the Royal Crescent isn't right in the centre - it is a nice walk through the Royal Victoria Park etc into the centre though. I'd walk from the Priory but its a good 25 minutes.

If you don't want to pay that much you can pretty much pick from the big chains - the Mercure in Queen Square is probably the nearest to the Spa and the centre, with the Hilton, George Street Travelodge, and Compass all being chain hotels right in the centre (beware there are two travellodges - one is further from the centre). There are then a wide range of smaller and independants nearly all of which will be pretty decent - duff hotels don't tend to survive in Bath as there is too much competition.

Be warned - if you are coming by car make sure parking is available and included in the price, and whereever possible leave the car and walk as the road layout will undo all the relaxing you achieve.

Bath is lovely you will enjoy yourself, we always haave a week there at Christmas. But cheap hotels and Bath cannot be mentioned in the same breath.
Have you tried Cottages 4 you as you can get quite cheap places self catering this time of year - short breaks
Otherwise investigate B and B on the Tourist Office website - they also have self catering but tends to be more expensive than Cottages 4 you.
