Bank charges?

Had a quick search and have read discussion about bank charges but can't figure out whether the £12 capped charge has come into effect yet?
Has it? and if so is it all banks or just certain ones?
I can't believe that Halifax charge £39 for a missed direct debit and then take it out a week later when there's still not enough money in there!

A direct debit payment is asked for by the beneficiary organisation - not paid by the Bank. The organisation the customer is paying to will have had notice from the Halifax that there were insufficient funds available to pay the direct debit on the day it was first claimed - some will then go straight to the customer asking for payment, others will simply try and claim again a week or two later. Each direct debit claiming organisation has their own policies in this situation.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

yeah I realise that but I was speaking about the Halifax taking the £39 charge out a week later and not the company reapplying for the DD

Only for Credit Cards. Here most, if not all, companies have reduced their (previously higher) charges to this level.headstar wrote:Had a quick search and have read discussion about bank charges but can't figure out whether the £12 capped charge has come into effect yet?
The OFT investigates currently into bank charges, but has not come up yet with a report or recommendations.0
