When you just have to say NO you cant buy it!! however cheap

aaaggghh just starting to budget properly have more than my fair share of debt to repay including a car loan, loan, overdraft and one 0% card.

I have started the piggybanking method of setting up different accounts for different forthcoming spends and find I have only enough money for food and diesel.
Does anyone else find it hard to say NO to themselves and go without. I am usually a lurker on the grabbit board and regularly have to pull myself back.

Does anyone else budget on here? or use this method?and stick to it

Not a major spend, but a Malteaster bunny...ooooh I love them and once I have one I can guarantee I'll have another one ( or two:p) later. Actually that's up to £2.10 a day, multiplied by 7..... maybe it's not that small!
  • West Coast, a clothes shop in town are closing down and selling off everything, i really really wanted a fluffy cardy for £12, but i just couldnt afford it so i had to leave it was really !!!!!! off, i never get any thing for myself, i know , i know i shouldnt have gone in there, but it was calling me...
  • I think that is the hardest thing....just saying NO to yourself cos if you are like me puts me in a bad mood and I sulk like a child in a sweet shop who cant have what they want. I try everything to convince myself I should have them I dont have much, i never buy anything for myself, i deserve it but now im seriously trying to reduce my debt and get into the green I am saying NO to me and my kids alot and only spending on what we need, as at the moment we havent enough money to have needs and wants.
  • we are on our second month in of trying to follow a strict piggy bank budget, and so far i have been rubbish, not big spends but running out of cash so a quick 5 mins online and an extra tenner magically gets borrowed from another account. just been adding up bits and pieces and got so cross with myself.
so fresh start this week,I am taking out cash and thats it. no more lending from the pigggy banks.
so big well done for being able to tell yourself no!

just starting on this road of saying no......so have alot of nos left to go and started piggybanking and like you do usually put all money from accounts back into current account. The problem is i am in a large overdraft but am worried if i dont budget properly I wont be able to afford things as they arise xmas, car insurance, house insurance, emergencies, school holiday childcare.

I have to pay off this year:

overdraft 2k currently putting 50pound aside for this
    0% credit card 1350 50 for this
bank loan 1100 189 pound for this

    I have these accounts:

    BILLS
    EMERGENCIES £50 FOR OVERDRAFT REPAY
    CHILDCARE £100 SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
    CLOTHES £20 SCHOOL SHOES ETC
HOLIDAYS/ENTERTAINMENT £10 PIZZA HUT AND SUN HOLIDAYS
XMAS £50 3 CHILDREN TO BUY FOR (COLLECT TESCO VOUCHERS TOO)
    CAR £50 INSURANCE, TAX,SERVICE,HOUSE/BUILDING INSUR/RAC
  • I've spent every month since November 2008 saying NO a lot! I don't find it that hard anymore. The only thing I really really miss is holidays. It's amazed me thought that I actually don't miss buying DVD's/CD's etc - I think I've bought one CD since '08 and other than that I just listen to the radio, and watch whatever is on TV! I've become a much better cook from not eating takeout 5 times a week and the only "gadget" I've had in 2 years is my kindle - a present from my OH - I'm still on a nearly 3 years old phone and my ipod is ancient but they do the job!

Holidays however, that little bit of R&R, I really do miss. My job is highly stressful (emergency services) and I used to count down to holidays, without them the year just seems to drag!

I really want to go see Bon Jovi in Hyde Park in the summer, but I said no to myself as I'm already going to enough gigs! Also Download festival, but that might be a treat if I get a job in the next few weeks!

Pretty much. I've gone from paying £250 a month towards my debts to £700 a month on the same income, just from saying no, budgeting and getting the best deals on bills etc. I've gone without a lot, but in September when I have an extra £700 a month I'll feel like a millionaire!
