I am now searching for a new job, any job, but in the meantime I need to know if I am entitled to any help towards my rent etc. I live with my wife who is part-time and goes to Uni, and I dont intend to be out of work long, but I dont want to start getting into debt.
Sorry if this is in the wrong place.
Thanks

The best thing to do is to go to the link below. This will tell you what you are entitled to. I aren't 100% sure but I think you may be entitled to JSA (contribution based) as you are now out of work. It all depends whether they try to say you have made yourself intentionally unemployed, although I am sure if you explain the circumstances to them that they will realise this is not the case at all. They will want every little detail though, so that they can check out why you were unable to take the new job after being made the initial offer of the position. Speak to your local Jobcentre to ask about your entitlement to JSA, then to your local council to ask about the Housing Benefit. As I've said the link below will give you a bit of an idea of what your entitlement to both will be.

In a nutshell, I have to work 4 weeks notice, and the job was only available if I could get it in two, I accepted the job assuming that I would be allowed to do two weeks as I have holidays left, but you know what they say about assumptions.
I understand that it was my fault for jumping before I could crawl.0 -
You could have just walked out at the 2 week point foregoing the 2 weeks of pay for the new job. Employers don't like it but hey you have a new job. Sorry meant to say had. When you claim you'll be sanctioned for a period of time.
All that happens if you don't turn up for work is that you won't be paid. They consider taking you to court for damages but it rarely happens.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Given the circumstances a sanction is quite possible, as you have become unemployed through your own fault, albeit not intentionally. When you sign on you will be asked to complete a form explaining the situation, be honest and the DM will decide whether a sanction is suitable. You will still be able to claim LHA/ HB on the basis of being on a low income.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Thanks for those replys. Yeh I was worried they would say it was my fault and I cant blame them, it is my fault. Hoping they are just lenient with me though.
I considered walking out, but I dont want to lose the reference as I have been here for over 2 years and if the new job didnt work out....0 -
I don't think a sanction would apply in this case0
