Vanity sizing (men's clothing)

I know this has been discussed in regards to Women's clothing but has anyone noticed the same in Men's clothing? I buy a lot of clothes in Debenhams and I've noticed that all of their own brand clothes sizes seems to have shifted?

For example, someone bought me a Thomas Nash shirt for a birthday and it was labeled as 'medium' but was more like a large and fit me like a tent. When I went to the store to exchange it, I thought I'd try a small (which I'm guessing is an old medium) but they seemed to have no small in most of the ranges!

In the end, I exchanged it for a blazer.

It's problematic because I order a lot of clothes online and increasingly it's impossible to guess sizes. Any other guys struggling with the same problem?

Yeah - I struggle with the arm lengths and it is hit and miss.

  • M&S are the worst for this, their 36 chest is more like a large 38 or small 40 at most other shops.

I have a serious problem with shopping online as well as I have quite broad shoulders and long arms, a long torso but a smaller chest & skinny waist. Clothes either fit the shoulders but are tent-like elsewhere or fit the chest but aren't long enough and have too small arms.
