printer problems - spooler not working again!

When I try to use the printer is says "windows subsystem application has stopped working and was closed. A problem cause the application to stop working correctly."

I've tried turning everything off and on again and when I go into cntrl panel the printer has disappeared. If I try to 'add printer' it says "windows can't open add printer. The local spooler service is not running. Please restart spooler of restart machine" and i've tried this and it doesn't work.

I'm using windows vista and the printer is a Lexmark P4300. Can anyone advise me please?

Unplug the printer, reboot. Reconnect and see if it finds the printer?

Hi macman - yes, I've done it and it still doesn't find it. I've also tried removing the printer software and downloading it again but it still doesn't work. Is this a computer problem or will need a new printer?

With the USB unplugged, see if you can print a test page from the printer. If so, it is mechanically OK and it is a connectivity/software issue. If not, it's hardware.
Tried using a different USB port?
First thing you need to do is get the printer showing up in Control Panel>Printers and Faxes, or in Device Manager.

I can't seem to find where to print a test page and when I go into Lexmark Imaging Studio, and click on 'maintain and troubleshoot' nothing happens. The printer doesn't show up in the control panel, but it is on the 'main menu' and if I go to 'uninstall a programme' it is still on there.

If the Print Spooler service is not running, then nothing will print, and you will see no printers.
Try clicking start >programs >accesories >run and in the box type services.msc and run it . Scroll down the list alphabetically until you find Print Spooler. I assume it will say stopped, so right mouse click and select start.

If it starts, see if your printer appears, and works. This probably won't cure things permanently, but may help to see what is going wrong.

Hi again - I turned on the computer this morning and exactly the same thing happened. I looked at the 'print spooler' and although it said it was on 'automatic' I 'restarted' it again but I still get the same message as before. You did say that it wouldn't cure it permanently but is there any way I can tell what is wrong?

Oh well I did say sometimes it works , sorry . Have a look at Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer , Windows Logs ...and either system or applications see if there are any errors.
