  • The finance was started in 2007.

The car was crashed in 2008.

    Simple.

If the car was recorded as Cat D after the finance was started in 2007 then the car was written off, the Insurance would have settled the finance and retained the car.

As such there should no longer be any finance owing on it.

Contact the finance co and find out why they still have an interest in it on HPi, and also approach HPi as they may not have been told or had their record updated by the finance company.

I assume the OP has bought the car as salvage or damaged repaired salvage?
  • What i'm trying to work out is can the fianance company can still have have a intrest in the car.

Could it not be that the insurance paid out to the finance company, but they amount the car was valued at did not cover the true cost owed, hence the finance company was still owed money, that the owner at the time never paid off?

Cat D could be just that it was stolen and had lock damage or a damaged wing or took longer than 6 months to recover. I'd not be hung up on the Cat D. As Dave said, the chances are the finance company were paid out from the insurance.
