You can't beat the good, old-fashioned syphon cistern - they don't leak like the inferior push-button cisterns do.
    Illegal now for new stuff

Just fit one of these isolating valves between the water pipe and the toilet. You just turn the screw to turn off the water

I changed the donut washer on my toilet a few years ago. Our bathroom suite was from B&Q. We found the actual toilet, sink and bath were good quality, but all the fittings (taps, toilet flush (wasn't a push button one), were rubbish, and all needed replacing after a year or two. A donut washer is cheap enough. If it were me i'd put a better washer on at the start - saves a lot of faffing around later on.

Also there are now low volume toilets that use even less water.

we have one of these 4.5/2.9

and it has so far never needed a double flush.
Also one piece ceramic to easy to clean and no washer wories.
    easy to fit
Comes with a soft close lid.

There are some that use even less water

I am not sure that I have ever fitted a do-nut washer that was not made from foam. They do not really deteriorate, but they do deform over time. It is a good idea to replace the do-nut washer if the pan ever needs separating from the cistern.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
