WTC question

Hi, for the last 15 months I have been unemployed claiming JSA, HB & CTB. I am a single person and live on my own. I have recently been offered a full time job working 37.5 hours per week with an annual salary of £14500 starting around the end of March 2011. Was wondering if I would be entitled to WTC. If so I guess I would have to give them my earnings for tax year 2009/2010. I have worked this out to be approx £7900 which includes self employment, paye and Jobseekers. Do I need to include any Housing and Council Tax Benefit. Also would it be better to claim after this current tax year ie 2010/2011 which would work out at £3406 not including CTB & HB and again would I need to include in a claim. Thanks

As it's based on last years earning then yes you would be eligible for a payment. I'd say claim as soon as you can. Eventually after a full year of working at your salary level you won't get any WTC's.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

    Assuming you are over 25...

As you'll be working for hardly any of this tax year it's probably not worth applying for WTC for this year for one weeks worth? You can if you really want to but it's more form filling.

Next year you should get WTC based on your 10/11 income, HB/CTB don't count generally it's taxable income which counts. Your earnings are actually above the level for WTC for single person but due to the disregard on income increases (10k next year) you should get full WTC (£2710). But likely nothing the following year.

    Thankyou for your replies.

If I put in a claim say after 6th April 2011 does this mean that I only need to put on the claim form my JSA payments which come to approx £3406?

Incidently what it the upper earnings level to receive WTC for a single person? and is there a website which shows these figures. Thanks
