Home CCTV, does it work?

We have had car vandalised twice when outside our house, parked on street. It costs a fortune for repairs.

We have been thinking about getting CCTV to see if it makes a difference.

Anyone had success with it.

it usually works well, providing you get the right equipment and people do no walk in the cameras trigger zone, cameras etc. Do not think a £20 webcam will make you a super sleuth. You will probably be approaching £80+ for a very basic diy setup and you will have to diy.

you may film your own property, but anything outside or public, you may have to register with the Information Commissioner and the catch word is Data Protection act. However read here and you may probably will be ok - for private use http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/libertycentral/2010/aug/31/householders-cctv-public-highway-film

If you want to be able to record it and at night you may be talking £300 quid+

But it is worth it IMO.

If you cannot record it then you tend to have to sit there watching it - it can get rather sad having to do that.

ebay around £58 when I bought mine :)
  • I was planning on £200-300 as damage to car will cost in excess of £500 to fix and who is to say it won't happen again once the car is repaired.

Thanks for you replies, most hepful

you do get the parimeter sensor car alarm that starts to chirp as people get close to the car - about half an inch away.

You can also get pager units to silently page you too.
  • You could try this website cctvman.co.uk i bought a dvr and a couple of cameras there. I looked around and seems they are the cheapest in professional CCTV.
