No hot water, please help!!

I have a Baxi Combi boiler, a Bahama 100.

At the moment the heating is working fine but whenever we try to use hot water the boiler turns on for a few seconds then turns itself of and then on and then off and so on, but sometimes doesn't actually come back on. We get a bit of luke warm water and then it goes cold again etc.

We had a new heat exchanger about 6 months ago but the engineer who came out today reckons we need another new one but cannot guarantee that this is the problem.

Can anyone tell me if we could need another heat exchanger so soon or suggest anything else it might be.

I found all the instructions and installation stuff tonight and that had lots of fault diagnosis diagrams in it, but I didn't have this when the engineer came, would it have helped?

I would really appreciate any help as the last thing we need at the moment is a huge bill, but it has been a couple of weeks now and with 3 children its very hard to keep going to the MIL for baths and showers.

Thanks

    Hi Harriet

I'll move this thread over to the In My Home Board. There are a lot of plumbers and heating engineers that post on the board so you may get a better response to your questions.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

The symptoms that you describe don't sound like the heat exchanger and if it was replaced only six month ago, it should not need replacing so soon. I would suggest that you get a second opinion as your engineer should be able to diagnose the problem.

sounds like the diverta valve, that was the cause of the problem on mine, this is the part that detects that the system is heating hot water instead of the radiaitors
