See, more jobs under threat because of spending cuts.

How long before Ed Millipede blames the coalition government for this ?

How do you know its not the police that withdrew its windscreen repair contract?

Even if the police did, would it have such a dramatic effect on the company ?

I suspect that the number of repairs to Windscreens that the UK Police require in a year is not huge. I might be wrong though.

Not repairing the roads could lead to more screen repairs.

FACT - we can't run an economy based on cutting each other's hair!

Fully agree. Generally known as knitting each other's jumpers or a more modern connotation of making each others' sandwiches.

Sad for the 1,100 individuals. But the extent to which we 'need' windscreens repaired, then someone has to do it. So most of them will get a job with Autoglass.

Hopefully, the others will get a job working for a company that makes something to sell abroad, or at the very least acts as a substitute for an otherwise imported object.

I don't disagree with 'pure service industries'. But they are largely 'redundant' in an economy with such a 'generous' Social Security system. Both are legitimate ways to transfer wealth from the 'rich' to the 'poor'. Service industries do this very efficiently. Social Security does it very inefficiently. Apart from wealth re-distribution, neither adds to the overall economy one single iota.

I bet the number is massive. The same a their bodyshop bill.

If not public service its an insurance company, a bank, The Royal Mail etc

Warks Council must be made up of members that have shareholdings in Autoglass.

They were the most expensive company in this sector (IME)

That's Auto Glass, not Auto Windscreens. Auto Glass are the crowd that do mostly insurance work but will change you £10,000 for a replacment windscreen if you're paying for it yourself. I've used Auto Windscreens a few times and found them to be sound guys and do a good job at a good price.

didnt Auto Windscreens used to be linked with RAC?

Shame as I would rather use them than Autoglass,
I once asked Autoglass for a quote on a chip (we were getting ready to trade in the car)
They wouldn't give me a quote and said it would be free under insurance.
I explained that I didn't want to do it under insurance as I didn't want loading on my premium.
"Oh no you won't get loaded on your premium it will be free"
Again I said no and asked for a quote - finally getting a price of £75. I thanked him and hung up before asking the RAC.

RAC explained that it would take about 15 minutes and cost about £15-20, if it was going to cost more than that, it would be because the screen was too bad to be repaired and the whole screen would need to be replaced. Which would have been less than £200 easily.

Anyway there was no need in the long run as the car dealer said they would just repair it in their own bodyshop and it wouldnt affect the trade in value.
