in Credit cards
Afternoon all, first time poster here.
I have had an MBNA card for around ten years. being young and foolish i didnt really understadn what to do with it and ran it u to its maximum of £4800, and in fact got to around £5000 with charges, interest etc. I stopped using it some 6 years ago, and currently have an outstanding balance of £3600 with a limit of £3800 (reduced today). Not missed a payment for sometime that i can think of.
In January, i looked at this site, saw the deal wit barclaycard and applied for a card with £5000 limit (based on the amount on the other card, plus an outstanding payment of £1005 for a pc). Accepted for the card, but with a reduced level of £2000. Not sure what to do now really, as the limit given is far too low, and the £1005 is due in April otherwsie i get hammered with interest. I spoke to MBNA who suggested i get another card (Apparently Barclays dont take balance transfer from MBNA - no one said that during the application process ). I then transfer the money from card to my account, and then transfer the money from account to Barclays.
Sounds too complicated to me - anyone had experience of this? I freely admit i am not the best brains in the business regarding financial stuff!
What should i look for in a card if i follow MBNA's advice?
Oh, i have also been told i have "too much credit" which is why some card companies have turned me down...
I have no doubts whatsdoever i can maintain payments on the £5000 limit rquested, from £150-£200 a month.

Barclaycard will take balance transfers - you need to phone back and ask again.
Read the small print of the card to see what % of your limit you can use to balance transfer.
A proportion of your debt at 0% is better than nothing - you are on the way to becoming debt free!0
