removing silicone

hi guys i was hoping someone here could help, i have just purchased a second hand fitted wardrobe and i'm in the process of fitting it in my spare bedroom but it still has old white silicone on from the last owners. Does anyone know a way of getting rid of this rather than sitting and picking at the stuff all night, i have tried nail polish remover which didn't touch it :o

I just use a blade from a Stanley Knife and scrape it. It all comes off eventually, but there isn't a quick way to get rid of it.

thanks i'll give it a go, it'll save the nails, was thinking of trying to melt it with my hairdryer but would probably end up burning the wardrobe knowing my luck !!

Probably not one of your best decisions!

  • Saw some silicon remover in Wilkinson's today - not sure if that would be any good for ao wardrobe though?

Peel the big stuff off & use these for the rest.

They work because I used them at the weekend.

They contain solvent so some things (like coloured lettering on plastic & acrylic paint etc) you should make sure you do not use them on.

You can buy silicone remover from most of the big sheds. It is in a pot with a brush inside the top. Simply paint on, leave for 30 mins(guide time), then scrape off or use a plastic pan scrubber if it's the residue.
