Overpayments

I am a dual-fuel customer with Eon on the " E.ON FixOnline 8 " tariff.
I believe it ends in July.

Is it possible to 'overpay' to benefit from the lower rates.
ie. input a higher meter reading than I have actually used to save money when I have to move to a new tariff which may have a higher per unit cost.
thank you for your help

  • It's possible, but tantamount to fraud I would have thought.

Especially as they are likely to ask the meter readers to visit your property . They have done every time i switched .

    Hi Dave

I do understand where you're coming from with this but there would certainly be implications for your account. If I might explain.

Fixonline 8 requires payment by Direct Debit with the actual amount being determined by usage. A sudden increase in usage would automatically trigger an equivalent rise in your monthly payments.

This could only be corrected by the submission of an accurate reading in line with previous usage.

All readings, whether from a customer or meter reader, need to be validated. This is done by checking the accuracy of the reading against previous read history.

Readings much higher than expected would be rejected. This would lead to an estimated bill or possibly even the suspension of billing whilst an investigation is carried out.

Similarly, meter readers continue to call even though customers enter readings online. If we receive a reading from this source which is lower than a previous one, this will not be validated and, again, an investigation will be triggered.

All in all, entering false readings will disrupt your account and possibly cause greater strife than any potential savings could justify.

Hope I've explained this adequately Dave. Let me know if there is anything unclear as will be happy to explain further.
