You are being scammed, they are attempting to gain access to your PC under the guise of sorting out corrupt files etc.

I have a talking Dalek by the phone for just such occasions.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Yes.

They just want to use Remote Access and take your files which may include credit card numbers, passwords and confidential information.

Never let anyone access your PC remotely.

Yes it is the current phone scam, Had them call about 2 times already. Never let them access your computer. As for stopping them call you, They use VOIP to call you so they can't be traced with normal methods.

If you told them that you were going to take it into PCW, they'll think you are completely mad and won't bother calling again...:D

Tell them you have to put the phone down whilst you boot up the PC.

    Put the phone down.

Go and do something more constructive.

Only return to the phone when you hear the wail of the 'open line' alarm to let you know they've hung up at the other end.

i've had this happen to me a number of times, saying they are working for virginmedia, virginmedia dont use 3rd party for their repairs, and they have told me to go to their website and i replied NO, as i repair computers for family and friends, i've even contacted virgin media telling them of this as it has happened more than 5 times, and they couldnt care less, i've asked them to find the number this people are using so they can block it. They told me to go to the phone preference service, which i have and they have asked me for the number to be blocked, so it doesnt work.,
Considering the fact i am also ex-directory, how did this "pc repair people" get my number.
next time these people phone me and i know they will, i'm going to get one of those air horns and when they say they are pc repair i'm going to put it next to the phone and pull the trigger, hopefully this will make them go deaf.
Every time its been some INDIAN on the other end.
