Childminder Advice

I posted a couple of weeks ago about returning to work and starting my dc at childminders.
Last week on there first day DD was upset but this was understandable. Today I received a call to say that DD was upset and had been for 40 minutes, did I have any ideas on how to settle her, I ran through all that I could think of but the childminder had tried these. I said that I would go over to them as this is very unlike DD.
When I went there was nothing obivous wrong with her, but as I was there and due to the circumstances I took both of the children home with me. They had only been there for 2 hours should I have to pay for the full day? If I had started back to work and had to leave in these circumstances I would not get paid and the difference between my wage and the childminders cost is small!!!
Any thoughts or advice!!

Does your childminder offer a staggering in period, if you haven't returned to work yet it is something you could maybe try and see what she says. As for charging, it was your choice to take them home (althought I understand why) so I think you really should pay. Different if she asked you to take them home.
:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0 -
My oh's mum is a childminder, during the settling in period she does not charge as she understands that it happens and children get upset, however if it isnt during the settling in period she does charge..due to the fact all her benefits are worked out to the momney she gets.
Just ask the childminderWill not be a fat bride...

The children are currently in there settling period, it is being done of a number of weeks so I could make sure they were totally settled before I went back. I am more than happy to pay for the hours she has done. I have never had this before, it must have been clear when she called me and I said I was going over that I would take them home, as its not fair for them to see me and leave with out them.
I guess I'm on a steep learning curve, I am also worrying as I have no idea why my DD has been so upset, she has been left with other people and has had no problems, now if it was my DS I'd just laugh it off!!!0 -
There's a lot of chicken pox about here. Perhaps she's in the early stages of something?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

It is a shock to the system for her, have you used this childminder before for your other child?
In terms of paying, I believe you should pay for what session your childminder has made her self available to you.
She made sure the time was for you and didn't take any other paid work on.0 -
I've kept an eye on her since it happened and I haven't noticed anything, normally if she is poorly she goes really quiet and sleeps. But you could be right, she's happily destroying my living room at the minute!!
I guess I'll have to see how tomorrow goes.0 -
No we haven't used this one before, in normal circumstances I wouldn't have looked at this one, as while good and has all the correct bits of paper she is a long way from home. However we have a shortage of childminders round here!!
Sods law spoke to a friend today and she's told me about a recently set up one alot closer to home!!0 -
I think you will be expected to pay her for the full day. I dont remember much of a settling in period when I used a childminder, maybe for an hour one day before they started.0
