no details on settled accounts

Hi all

New to this forum but been reading with interest over last few days.

I am looking at starting down the reclaiming ppi route and feel nervous to say the least.

I am looking to reclaim for 2 loans with Bank of scotland (who surprisingly) were very helpful in that they sent me signed copies of both agreements with all figures on within 2 days.

not sure how to work out how much i should be looking to claim as one loan is still running one just finished. (can put figures on if that will help.

The difficult part i have is with welcome finance with whom I had 3 separate loans ( taking out one to clear another) which at time suited but hindsight is wonderful thing.

As the loans and hire purchase were all settled some time ago I no longer have any of the paperwork so no account numbers etc so when i phoned welcome finance they were unable to find any record of me at all, using either address date of birth etc . I then went to bank to see if they could give me any reference numbers as all payments had been direct debits and they couldnt help, offered to send me copy statements but the woman in branch said it would be pointless as it wouldnt have any reference numbers on them.

Would i get the information i need if i sent a SAR request to bank as I dont see point of sending one to welcome finance as i dont have the account numbers and they cant find me.

All welcome finance loans were settled between sep 05 and Dec 07.

When all loans were taken out I worked for NHS with all the associated sick pay terms etc so should I have been sold PPI in first place.

any help before i start would be most helpful, as if i can avoid using claims companies I would prefer to.

thanks

Hi and welcome and please don't be nervous.;)

I assume you have reasons to make a reclaim on the PPI then.

Now if you still have the account numbers you can still make a reclaim without the need of the paperwork.
If you were mis sold 3 loan ppi with the same company then you can pursue the 3, and of course it makes no difference if the loans are settled or still running.

However, whoever sold you the loans is the ones you pursue, for example, when you first taken out the loan with Welcome was it them that set up and sold you the loan?
If yes then you pursue for all your loan ppi with them on all 2, if they only set up the last 2 you go to them to make a reclaim and whoever sold you the first one is the ones you go to for that one.

Normally if you request a SAR, they go back as far as 6 years, so you may be lucky - and receive all the data you require, however, sometimes they do hold data going back to even earlier years.
There is a SAR template on link below, if you want to send one to Welcome, only enclose £10 cheque or postal order, as this should be sufficient for all your data, if you do still have all the account numbers for each loan, add them on the letter as well.

To make a reclaim - questionnaires replaced the template letter on this site and was issued by the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) for this purpose of making a reclaim.
You can either make a reclaim on separate questionnaires or together, but again make sure you enclose all account numbers that apply.

Also make sure you keep copies of everything in case you need to refer to these again.
They do normally have 8 weeks to give a decision - but may ask for more time, but keep you fully informed, hope this helps and you will find the reclaiming questionnaire on link below as stage one, good luck.

  • Hi Di

the 2 recent loans were with bank of scotland. I have paperwork for these.

The welcome finance ones are the ones i think will give me most problems. as they cant find me on their systems, so writing to them at this stage i think will be fruitless, as the office i dealt with no longer exists and i have no paperwork or agreement numbers.

The reasons i am looking to claim are when i took out all of loans i was employed by nhs so my sick, redundancy entitlement would have prevented me from making a claim anyway.

as for welcome finance the above reason and the fact that it was never really explained just tick these boxes and sign then we will get your money, kind of encouraged you to sign without really understanding what your signing. (not a mistake I will make again) i hasten to add.

would the bank hold details of previous direct debit requests.

    Hiya

Oh yes sorry "Bank of Scotland" as well.

I would continue to make a reclaim on the most recent ones then and maybe if you just tried making a reclaim on the other ones via Welcome anyway, try to remember as much as you can when making the reclaim with your reasons.

Its known that some have done this then suddenly your details appear on data.;)

I would call into your local bank and ask if they still hold any details, give it a go.

Go for it and the best of luck.

I was going to say as well if you still bank with the same ones now as you did when you were repaying the loans every month, and if you bank online, this may allow you to go back about 7 maybe 8 years, the account number of the loans is normally shown next to the monthly loan repayments.;)

Hi there, send a sar to welcome, they will have details as the last loan was settled 07. Hopefully you will get all 3 accounts, this ppi would have been frontloaded, this means you would have had to pay ppi for the term of the loan and the ppi is added to the original loan. When you settled each loan you will have only got a VERY small rebate of the ppi and the remaining ppi would have been added to the new loan with the new ppi!!!! please sar them.
  • this might sound a bit naive but dont i need the agreement or account numbers for welcome.

Was hoping if i sar my bank they will have some details, do they have to keep direct debit mandates at all.

    Hiya

If you have the account numbers for each loan then that is a start, you can still start to make a reclaim without the need of any other documentation at this time.
They do sometimes send a copy of the loan agreement back with a letter.
But if you want to request for a copy of your agreements, you can just write a simple letter, enclose £1 cheque or postal order for each one, and ask they provide by 12 days of your letter.

You should have no problem in receiving the agreements if the accounts are still active, even though its still known they may still send them if the account is settled.;)
