help - switching

Hi , after 6 longs years with N.Power we finally changed using the comparison website.

It said that switching now would save us about £400 per year so switched to E-on. It took about 4 weeks to sort but finally got the direct debit set up and they took the first amount in Jan this year.

Then we got a letter saying that their prices are going up and since we just switched we have the option to leave as long as we notify them within 20 days. There prices are now higher than N.Powers was . So annoyed.

I thought the whole point of switching was to get a good price , whats the point if they just shaft the price up on you after 1 month ! ???, can they do this ?

Anyone else had this ?

Many thanks,
clare

Sorry you say you saved £400 per year by switching?

That may possible for a slightly higher than average user who switches from a standard rate pay on receipt of bill to the most cost efficient tariff. (the average is about £300 per year saving reducing a £1200 bill to £900)

What is unlikley is that the price of that most efficient tariff is now more expensive than the original one based on the same input data.

It sounds like you are not using the comparison site correctly. Are you inputting your annual consumption in kWh?

Switching would save xx based upon the input against your old provider .
Unless a locked/capped account its the same as your old provider subject to price increases .

If no supplier put any price up then you would save xx amount . But as the price is rising all the time you usually find that switched months later price rise higher than old tariff but old provider soon follows suite and ups price .

The whole point of switching is to get a better price than your current price .You got a better price but its subject to the standard terms and conditions = price rise part and parcel of gas electric prices .Avoid by locked tariff but they are usually more expensive and if the price drops you may be paying over the odds
