Upgrading memory in Macbook

I'm looking to upgrade the memory in my Macbook from the current 1GB to 2.5GB.
I have 2x memory slots, both with 512MB of memory and I would like to buy 1x 2GB of memory and replace one of the 512MB. Problem is, when I started looking into buying it, I got completely confused!
Is there a particular brand that works better than others? Do they have different speeds? I'm worried that I'll buy the wrong one!
I have a late 2007 white macbook. Thanks in advance!

The best place to start is the crucial memory advisor - http://www.crucial.com/index.aspx.
Sometimes you need (or its better) to have the same in each slot.0 -
+1 for Crucial. No quibble compatibility guarantee providing you use their memory advisor and buy what it states. Also lifetime guarantee as well and I once put in a claim for some DDR desktop RAM that was 7 years old, needing to supply nothing more than the email address used to purchase it and the serial number off the sticker and they were happy to honour it, even offering to send out replacement RAM before receiving the faulty one.
And once you factor in delivery costs from buying cheaper RAM elsewhere, Crucial is not that expensive.0 -
Yes, I have used Crucial a few times now, You can use their scanner and see what they recommend, quite simple to upgrade the memory in the macbook.0

and me for Crucial too...If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

I bought the wrong memory once (my own fault for not using the Crucial advisor, but relying on model number-turns out the mobo had been changed). They changed it without quibble-all I paid was the postage and price difference.
You can buy cheaper, but I'd only do that if upgrading a very old PC where the budget is paramount. No free lunch, and no free laptop
