Virus in .exe files

The laptop of a friend has landed at my house. Nothing works, each time I try to run anything a warning comes up saying !!!!!!!.exe file infected. The programme - "System Tool" gives the warnings
AVG was on the laptop but is now missing.
A virus programme comes up and "scans" and then when I tick "remove" infected files it brings up a screen where you have to by the programme in US dollars.
I tried to run "FixExe" from a pen drive and it said its .exe file was infected and it did not run.
Is there a programme that can be run from the internet without having to download an .exe file?

"System Tool" seems to be making the rounds, there was a thread about this the other day.
Have a look here for removal instructions..............

I don't have time to do a walkthrough just now but follow the instructions in the link.
Let us know how you get on or if you have any other queries just post back here.0 -
Thanks for that, much appreciated. I have put a photo of the laptop screen in the first post.

Download RKill http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic308364.html Which is very good at killing infected files running.
And in just about every case i've seen the infection will allow explorer.exe to run, so rename the anti spyware weapon of your choice to explorer.exe and it should be able to run.0 -
I have started in safe mode etc and downloaded RKill and put it on pen drive.
Inserted pen drive to infected PC, installed the software for pendrive.
Clicked on Computer, but it only shows Local disc C, HP recovery and CD Drive E, the pen drive is not shown. It did show before when I tried to put on another file.
In Tools the proxy server was unchecked as shown below when I entered the screen so I left it as it is shown below.
How can I get the pen drive to show?

needs to be booted normally.....not safe mode
copy rkill variants to desktop or run them from pen driveEx forum ambassador
