WTC Overpayment

Hello all I'm a bit confused here and could do with some guidance.

Me and my partner split up a while ago and got back together. I then had the usual renewal form and instead called up to report change in circumstances. They was; me living with my partner again, a new addition to the family. I reported these changes fine with a few errors made by HMRC.

The reason I think i have had an overpayment is because when I called up to report my changes they asked about my employment details/status. They asked how much and who I'd worked for in the years April 2009/April 2010. I give them all the correct info and that the last date I worked for those tax years was Dec 2009. Since that I have worked but not enough hours to claim WTC.

They had rung me up twice for my employment details as the 1st time they said they had lost the information so the 2nd time I had to give them it again.

I then receive a payment of around £600 in bank along with a letter which I received today saying it was backdated WTC and when I called them they had me down as working with a previous employer back in Dec 2009.

I spoke to them on the phone and they said I can dispute this. This is not my fault and they have entered the wrong information. But that decision won't be final until I receive a letter to dispute it.

I have already spent most of the money on bills as I thought it was owed backdated WTC.

Where do I go from here. I can't really afford to have £600 deducted from my current award as I have my 2 children.

Any advice would be grateful.
