What pc for World of Warcraft?

I'd really appreciate some advice. I bought WOW for OH for Christmas but our computer (Dell Inspiron 4550, approx 9 years old) can't cope with it.

I checked and our computer is too old to upgrade and as it struggles with most things now, we're going to buy a new one.

I know nothing about computer specs but have a budget of approx 600.00.

We want to use it for !!!!! Wars on facebook and WOW for OH, and general internet browsing for me. Can anyone advise me on the best desktop to buy?

Thank you.

:)

M@fia for some reason is blocked..... that is an undemanding browser game so won;t really come into it, as for WOW i'd hop onto the games website and try to target getting at least the 'recommended' specs, its an old game so should be readily do-able for your budget.

you'll definitely need a PC with separate/dedicated graphics card, this lot have been recommended elsewhere on here but not used em myself https://www.dinopc.com good for comparing offers on other sites to, if ordering from a small company online ALWAYS use a credit card for section 75 protection.

well the recommended specs for WoW cataclism (gotten from tomshardware) are as follows

    Recommended Requirements
    Operating System
    • Windows XP 32-bit (SP3), Windows XP 64-bit (SP2), Windows Vista 32-bit (SP1), Windows Vista 64-bit (SP1) Windows 7
    Processor
    • Dual-core processor, such as the Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2
    Memory
    • 2 GB RAM (2 GB for Vista users)
    Video
    • 3D graphics processor with Vertex and Pixel Shader capability with 256 MB Nvidia GeForce 8600 or ATI Radeon
    Sound
    • 2600 or better DirectX-compatible sound card or motherboard sound capability
A broadband Internet connection is required, and a multi-button mouse with scroll wheel is recommended.
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

Who told you that your present PC is not upgradeable?.
If you'd care to post the specs (RAM, processor, OS) then someone can advise.
Might just need a RAM upgrade and a cheap graphics card-a lot less than £600.

MW is easy, it's a browser game so any PC will work with that, lets concentrate on Warcrack then, here's the minimum requirements for the most up to date expansion (which it's fair to assume if you enjoy it you will wind up buying)

Minimum processor: P4 1.3ghz or Athlon 1500+ (recomendation - Dual Core processor) - this should all be fairly standard these days!!
Memory: 1gb Ram (rec - 2gb) - again this should be fairly standard stuff, but from me, i'd consider going as high as 4gb.
    Graphics: minimum of Radeon 9500
(all ofcourse under anything Windows - minimum is XP, but you'll struggle to find retailers building anything less than Windows 7 these days)

I'll assume (dangerous!) that you already have a monitor, keyboard & mouse which you'll bring across from your current setup, the company i used for my current build was Cyberpower - hard wearing, solid build quality & packs more than enough punch to handle WoW with ease i've found. They have systems within budget which should do the trick, but might be worthwhile grabbing a copy of say Custom PC/PC Gamer to get second opinions too. (https://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk) Once you've sorted that out, you can DL a free 10 day trial from the website (https://www.wow-europe.com) and give that a bash just to be sure, always worth a reminder though that it is a subscription based game, £8 a month, and is kinda like marmite you either love it (and wind up playing it too much - can't think where i get that from :D ) or hate it - so better to check the water before jumping in at the deep end!

To be fair, at 9 years old im thinking its a new computer needed

I think the OP would rather do that than exchange motherboards etc

i play warcrack and I remember thinking £8per month to play a game, no way! Then I worked out how much I spent monthly on other games that I got bored of after a month and realised that £8 is not too bad. Like Blue said, its kind of a love or hate thing. Mind you it really wasnt my thing before I started in that I play Civ, footy manager, settlers etc but I find enough to keep me occupied.

Others have already pointed out that a pretty standard pc will do the job for wow, its not too demanding, good graphics card and 4Gb RAM. Yes the graphics are not the best but it has been updated since release and to have the max settings on and keep the game running smoothly a good graphics card is definately desirable. Running it on min settings is rubbish :-)

Mouse dont forget a multi button gaming mouse, very essential if you want to get the most out of the game .

agreed with Rik, i think upgrading a 9 year old system is not the best idea, although spending £600 is overkill in my mind, you should probably only be looking at spending £400 max on a base unit for that usage, as JasX has posted dinopc have some good value systemsm, the gallant (gaming pc section) at £399 is very good price for the spec and is more than good enough for your desired usage - this being said some people have had issues with the delivery estimate being a little on the 'optimistic' side so you should bare that in mind, cyberpower also have a decent selection of systems and have good customisation,

    Something like this?
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMD-AM3-Dual-Core-Home-PC-3-0GHz-2GB-500GB-DVDRW-/130457075170?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopPCs&hash=item1e5fd8fde2
They add Windows 7 Home Premium at no extra charge (but you must goto the link provided on the page)

Then add whatever graphics card (And a possible more powerful PSU depending on the card)
