Ford Mondeo ST220 - Anyone got one?
I'm looking at getting a new car, I want something a bit quicker than my Focus, but ideally want to stay with Ford, as I've not had a problem with it in over a year, and parts are generally pretty cheap I've found.
Was looking around Autotrader and came across the Mondeo ST220, the reviews I've read all say that its a good car, however always a little cautious with it, so wondered if anyone on here has one, and what they think of it?
I mainly use my car for fun, but enjoy bigger cars incase I need to take friends/family out. Insurance isn't too bad for a 3.0 litre car, just over £1,000. They also don't appear to be that much, around £3,000 to £4,000 for one that looks good in photos, which is always a bonus!
Any opinons on it would be great!
If anyone has any ideas on other cars to look at as well, that would be great!
Thanks.

£1000 and you say thats not bad??? usually people come on complaing insurance is more than £400
I was tempted, but have a 2.0 Ghia X instead, all the bells and whistles but not the high insurance. Nice car and I think the engine is pretty good so go have a look and test one, see what you think. Maybe look for an ST200 as well, slightly older and 2.5 litre not 3 litre, or alternately look at the Titanium so you still get the 3 litre engine but insurance may be cheaper0 -

Haha yeah, being 21 and male I expect to pay a lot, and was expecting it to be a lot more, a Focus ST is over 5k to insure lol.
I'll look into the others as well! Thing I don't like that much is the MPG, around 20MPG! lol. What is pi? Where did it come from?0 -
I only get 29.6 in my mondeo and its a 2 litre petrol.
go over to talkford.com and they are well into the Mondeos, can tell you all the ins and outs, maybe look for an ST24 instead and see what they does for insurance0 -
Lots of Police forces used and abused Mondeo ST 220's, Essex Police still has a few knocking about, but they have mainly been replaced by BMW's now. They put huge mileages on them, some where still being used at 6 and 7 years old!
Make sure you get one with the proper Recaro interior, the seats are in a different league to the standard half leather ones.
Don't forget that they came in diesel with the ST TDCi, it had the same 2.2 diesel lump that was fitted to some X type diesels, and came with 155bhp as standard. Not sure if the ST version had more power as standard.
The ST TDCi is a rare beastie, but well worth the hunt as on a run you will get 50mpg plus. It can also be remapped with bluefin or similar for up to 180-190bhp.
If you want something a bit more subtle and still quick, they did a Titanium X Mondeo around 2006 which could be bought with the 2.2 engine, which had 155bhp, 18" wheels, full leather, cruise etc. The Titanium can still be remapped with bluefin or similar.0
