How long does it take to switch ???

I requested a Gas and Electricity switch from Eon to Npower on 15th November;
- Received a welcome pack from Npower saying that they were taking over on 28th December;
- sent my meter readings accordingly;
- received a final gas bill from Eon on 19th January and a Direct Debit agreement from Npower on the same day;
- received a Direct Debit agreement for my electricity on 7th February.

As of today, still no final Electricity bill from Eon and after 'phone calls to both Eon and Npower - Eon is saying that Npower have not supplied them with a meter reading whilst Npower is saying that a meter reading was supplied and agreed on 4th January.

Currently, Eon are holding onto nearly £300 of my money. What should I do as it is now three months since the switch was requested?

    It takes at least 4 and typically about 6 weeks to change supplier.

    As you have had a final bill from the previous supplier, you have been switched. (although gas & electric may sometimes switch on different days)

    Your issue here seems to be that you just haven't had the final electric bill due to missing data. The supplier has 12 months to bill you. Personally I always provide the meter reading on the day of switch to both suppliers and never had an issue of one supplier waiting for the other.

    Check with your new supplier they are supplying you. Then when the final bill does eventually arrive from E.On check (a) it is within 12 months and (b) the final reading matches the start reading that nPower used.

    If you want to hurry things along, complain to E.On providing them with a copy of your first nPower bill confirming the start reading (and so the end reading they should bill you to). You could even work out what you believe you then owe, and so demand the immediate return of any remaining balance.

  • thanks for that - although it may be a long wait for my first bill as that is not due until 28th June.

    Hi philwakely,

    when customers change supplier the new supplier sends the meter reading to the old supplier to produce the final bill to, this is also passed through a third party to verify the reading.

    This is where a delay can occur, as it has to be agreed by all concerned.

    As this is all done electronically it may be that E.ON is waiting for this to come through.

    I can take a look at your account if you would like me to, just send your details to the email address in my profile page.
