Done Deal have done me!

I am (or was not sure) insured with Done Deal for my car insurance. I have recently moved to a better area than where I lived before, my car is being kept in a secure car park as opposed to on the street, I phoned Done Deal to advise of change of address, only to be told "sorry Sir your insurer doesnt cover that area, we will have to cancel your policy in 7 days"
I have moved 5 minutes down the road, it is a better area!!
I started the insurance in Septemeber, so they are now telling me I have to start this years NCD again, I will have to find a new policy which means shelling out on another deposit, surely this cant be right?!!
Any advice please??

Well considering it's nicer and people feel the need to use and provide secure parking, it sounds more desireable for theives.it is a better area!!
I'm afraid you don't have the right to demand someone does business with you.surely this cant be right?!!
If you do know you might be moving then I would suggest checking this up front.
If you don't know then there isn't much you can do about it.
But basically, no they not under an obligation to insure you in your new area.
Sorry
How much of the year is there left?
Any possibility of storing the car in the old area for the remainder of the year?0 -
The policy does not run out until September this year.
As I have already told them I have moved address, I suppose they are not going to buy the fact that I will keep the car in the old area?
What has annoyed me is that they have been happy to take my money for the last few months and now they are "dropping me" for one for a better word, it feels wrong that they can do that, they are a broker, surely they should be finding me someone else, as a customer I feel I deserve better than this!
Not that I expect that they care or indeed any of my complaining or arguments really mean anything in the real world!0 -
I was not suggesting you lie.I suppose they are not going to buy the fact that I will keep the car in the old area?
Obviously I have no idea how far away it is, but if it was a few weeks and not too far away then it might have been worth renting a garage or even using street parking.
If it's a long time and not close then that suggestion isn't going to work.
err.....yes you have a 12 months contract. What has annoyed me is that they have been happy to take my money for the last few months
I understand how you feel (sort of) but it sounds like you bought an annual contract.
If your circumstanes aren't stable then perhaps a pay as you go policy woudl be more suitable?
I'm sorry to sound harsh, but you bough a 12 months contract and you have no right to expect any flexibility on that.
Usually the annual contract can be amended.
But it's a fallacy to think "nicer" areas get less crime.
They are more desireable to theives because there is nicer stuff around.0 -

If you can keep your car elsewhere at night that is acceptable to your insurer there is no reason why you can't do that.
You cannot force your current insurer to accept the change you are making to the risk they originally accepted - this is you wanting to change things, not them!
(But see if you can contact the insurer direct (presumably Fortis/Ageas) and get this confirmed, for your own peace of mind!)0 -

Who is your actual insurance with? I assume not the broker?

It isnt an annual I pay monthly.
I understand that theives are drawn to nicer things, but there is also a reason why a thief will be more likely to steal a Golf GTI parked on a street rather than a Mercedes which is behind electronically opened 8ft gates, it is easier!0 -
No the insurance is actually through Fortis but i was told by Done Deal they would not speak to me
Hi,
Do you mean that you are paying monthly, but actually have a annual contract? Or are you paying monthly & have a monthly contract?
If it is the 2nd option, then just find a different insurance company - aplan are a good broker ... but if the 1st one, check the cancellation fees - ask the broker for these ...

Just beacuse you pay monthly, does not reveal anything to us about the nature of the contract.
You could have a monthly pay as you go policy OR an annual contract.
The fact that you will lose your annual NCD indicates you have an annual contract but you have opted to pay monthly.
This is entirely different to a PAYG policy which is a monthly conrtact/policy rather than an annual policy.I understand that theives are drawn to nicer things, but there is also a reason why a thief will be more likely to steal a Golf GTI parked on a street rather than a Mercedes which is behind electronically opened 8ft gates, it is easier!
It's pointless us getting into an argument about this.
The insurer is entitled to make their own decision which they usually do on the basis of claim statistics.
I'm just saying that just because it's a "nicer" area doesn't mean it's "nicer" for the insurer and the fact that your insurer doesn't want to insure you there backs this up.
We can argue about the area all day, but the fact is that it's THEIR decision and not yours or mine whether they want to cover that area.
This is perfectly legal so whilst you can argue about the reasons all day if you want, at the end of the day it's their decision.
Where you want to live and what car you want to buy is your decision.
They are under no obligation to cover all areas of the UK.
It looks like you bought an aanual policy and now you will have to pay the cancellation fees to cancel it.
Sorry, but it's their decision and not illegal.
There are however limits for the cancellation fee (which I think is £75).
You would have had their terms provided to you in writing and had a 14 day cooling off period to read them.0 -

This is important - find your documents & read the t&cs - cancellation & moving house - ask your broker what happens next re cancellation.
