Buying shares for SCRIP/DRIPS reinvestment

I have a simple question: I'd like to buy some shares in a particular company, and have the dividends reinvested automatically, but I can't find any online services that offer this option. Capita are the registrar for the company in which I'm interested.

You could ask one of the brokers if they can tell you which shares offer scrip dividends. Try the share centre (Share.com) and iii.

I know they don't all do it. Aviva,BT and BG do and there will be a lot more. I think I would just Google "scrip dividend shares" and see what comes up. But, of course, you don't want to buy shares just for this reason.

Thanks for that. I've found out by calling Capita that the company I was interested in (Imagination Technologies) hasn't paid dividends for a long time (if ever), so I might follow your advice and search "scrip dividend shares", check their history, and watch them for a bit with my desktop widget.

I've seen lists of suitable companies that offer dividends too, but any lists you can suggest would be welcome.

I'm also aware that - although some of the shares I have are already SCRIP, that DRIPS is less attractive; but it's hard to work out exactly why, and whether SCRIP options are likely to continue?

HSBC InvestDirect allows its customers to take up SCRIP dividends - they were the only broker I could find who did this when I looked..
