Burgaled, saw footprints, but need to find a match

Hi,

I was recently burgled, and found foot prints outside in the mud, and matching ones on my kitched carpet and another set on a painted floor.

The forensics said they werent good enought to take a print from so he ignored them, but I made a note.

One was definately nike, and the other was a pretty distinctive pattern of circles, Is the anywhere on the web that has a database of footprints or pictures of the bottom of trainers that I can look through and try to find a match.

I know the chances are slim of it leading to anything, but I would like to know as the suspects have been seen many times on my street, and its just a bit more evidence to add to the pot.

Many Thanks for any Help.

    Hi Sherlock.

The foot prints would only be part evidence. If they were totally unique trainers for which there were only a handful of these sold in your area, then this might help.

But in reality, unless the Police forensics find fingerprints which match ones on their database or someone saw the burgler at the scene, the Police are not going to do anything.

I have a feeling that most of Police dramas you see on TV, which give the impression that they investigate every crime are not accurate. The truth I suspect is that they will only spend a limited amount of investigating any crime. So unless you are a VIP, I doubt you will see anything happen, unless they get caught commiting another crime and they are connected with your burglary.

This is not to say that you should not make your own enquiries. Someone I knew in a situation where they were the victim of crime and suspected the culprits, phoned Crimestoppers to make an annonymous tip of, that there was drug dealing taking place where the culprits lived. This must have worked, as a week or so later the Police raided the culprits flat and they were arrested. The Police must have found something in the flat, as they were convicted.

I am not suggesting you missuse Crimestoppers as this is a valuable resource to the public that should not be abused. But if you do have genuine information and can make a phone call annonyomously from a phone box, that might be an option.

    Cheers Watson!

Yea, I know its not really evidence at all as they have washed away now, and I had no camera left to take any pics. but the circles print had me intregued as I havnt seen it before so perhaps a bit rarer than the bog standard Nike prints.
Still cant find a database on the web showing all the soles of trainers though (youd have though in this day and age!)

Yes it seems the police arnt too much help, they hadnt even assigned it to a real person until I badgered them today for the fourth time, and then I was told she was on holiday this week!, (drives me mad)
I've got 2 witneses that saw the lads (admittedly not in my house, but pulling my suitcase) and xbox wont help me trace the missing box if it connects to live without police support. but the best the police could do today was to say put it in an email, (even that bounced with the address they gave me!)

I was expecting the full "Touch of Front" treatment, but i've been brought down to earth with a bump, i dont expect to see my stuff again, or even catch em.

but at least if i see these two in the street, it would be nice to know what trainers to look for.

Crimestoppers is a good bit of advice if i ever find a bit more out about em. but i wouldnt do that unless im really sure.

    Thanks again for your help.

My only thought would be to search google images for trainer soles and look through them , if you know the make put that in the search
  • Thanks Stef,

that was my first port of call. but there is supprisingly little.

the closest i can find to the pattern was the first pic here

says globe as the make, but only the front of the print was visible at my place, no logo.

searching for globe on google doesnt really show the bottoms of the shoes.
    i'll continue my serach.

    Hi,

You could also check ebay and Gumtree for your area to see if anyone's selling your stuff!

The other issue JackSnap that I should have mentioned is this. Statistics show that once you have been burgled, there is a much higher risk of a further break-in happening. So I would suggest that you invest in some new security. Get a security company or locksmith to look at upgrading locks to doors and windows. Also if you can't afford an alarm system, putting up a dummy alarm box can act as a deterant.
