Windows 7, Android and Microsoft Outlook

I tried this question on the Mobile forum, but no luck and, in hindsight, should have posted here.
Ok - here is what I want to do.
I want to get an Android phone. But I need it to sync with Outlook running on my recently acquired Windows 7 Netbook. It happens to be Outlook 2003, but I can upgrade.
However, I understand that there are some problems with Android phones and Windows 7/Outlook.
Certainly I have encountered problems with Windows 7 and my basic Nokia handsets. On my previous PC, they all worked with PC Suite via bluetooth. On Windows 7, although phone sees PC and PC sees phone, they fail to authenticate. (Well documented ongoing issue on the web). Works ok with cable, though so I can live with that.
I would like to know if anyone has had success with syncing Androids with Windows 7 and, if so, which version of Android s/w, which handset and whether cable or bluetooth.
Thanks.

Hi I have a Desire, Android 2.2 (froyo),Win 7 64 and 32 bit and sync via Cable(occaionally) but mainly Wifi . I sync with Thunderbird and Lightning not an Outlook Fan but the HTC Sync app is pretty poor, imho, I use MyPhoneExplorer server here and app here worth a look, it does work with Outlook too.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Thanks.
I should have added that I need to keep 3 mobiles in sync for Contacts and Calendar. 2 don't have a data package and I want to keep my PC "masterfile" off line and able to print from - hence Outlook.0 -

The server is installed on my PC(and my Netbook) the WIFI option is for local network only so won't affect data packages, (It looks for clients on the same network)4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . My phone explorer might be your best bet, if you want to spend some money, I believe that this is quite well regarded. I guess you were not getting much of a response from the Mobile forum because you are asking about a non-standard usage scenario (PIM sync to PC rather than via the cloud).0

If its calendar info then I use Google calendar sync http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/topic.py?topic=15305
to sync my outlook calendar to my google calender which then automatically keeps my phone calendar up to date.
If its emails then just give the phone your email account details and it syncs them automatically over the network0
