Comparison Sites

I have used a couple of the comparison sites for car insurance and cannot believe the difference between them. I tried Confused, Go Compare and Compare the Market. The same details were entered into each of them and I thought I was wasting my time as they would be the same but I was very surprised at the results.
The cheapest company quoting was the same for all of them but the difference in price was amazing.
Compare the Market came in at just under £1800, Confused was the next at just under £2300 and Go Compare was the dearest at just under £2600.

Just be careful of what they are quoting you for.
In an attempt to come up cheapest they often strip off anything extra e.g. protected NCd, legal cover
Some companies even quote for 10 months and not 12.
So make sure you check all the details.0 -
Financial services products benefit from economies of scale as much as any other retail product. So, different distributors can get different prices based on their negotiation with those companies.
That said, some product providers have issued certain policies that are unique to certain quote portals where the terms may have been shaved off a bit in places to reduce the price further. Never assume that the same branded product is the same through every distribution channel.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Some comparison sites also make mistakes in translating information.
For example we said on one comparison site that we had "other vehicles".
This was translated to one insurer as "other cars"
If you don't use a broker then the buck stops with you to check the info, even if they passed it on wrongly to the insurer.0 -
Yes they can vary quite a lot. The comparison site will link into a particular set of Insurers rates applicable to that site. Some comparison sites are offered special rates or there will be differences in terms as has been pointed out.
You really need to have thorough read of all the information on the Insurers site, after you have clicked through from the comparison site, to see if the quote is based on the correct terms you are happy with. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
