I doubt it. If we get nowhere then after the 12 months is up I will simply leave and because I'd know he would attempt to keep the deposit I would withhold the rent for the last 2 months and let him take me to court to get me out the house.
What is your problem? You have received no indication that the landlord will seek to retain your deposit but with your attitude you are hurtling towards that inevitable outcome in any case if you go ahead with your plan to make alterations to the property without consent.
Your attitude as demonstrated in this thread is rather unfortunate, to say the least, and I suspect that you will be the architect of your own misfortune either in this rental or another future one if you cannot or will not accept the advice and guidance you have asked for and been given.
Do you often have issues with people who you think are intransigent and unreasonable?0 -
Although the OP is probobly not a troll in the strictest sense, the thread has become troll-like. Pointless exchange of views between those proferring advice and the OP declining to listen.
Waste of time continuing.0 -

Not really no, but I have had bad experiences with landlords in the past which makes me extremely wary and judgmental <-- is that spelt right? And that is why I react the way I do because I feel freedom is being taken away from me.
But I may be getting somewhere but I'm not sure. The landlord put this in an E-Mail to the agent earlier today regarding the installation of the phone line etc. Where he put 'They' he's talking about me and my other half. They are allowed to go ahead if this does not cause any disruption to the property such as digging etc.
So I'm not sure how to take the above as if an engineer does come out and do any work on the property such as installing a phone line and/or a cable internet connection he has to drill a small hole in the side of the house to put the cable through so does that sound like he's agreeing or not? What I mean is that he's specified I can go ahead if it doesn't cause disruption to the property. But would you (thinking from a landlords point of view) think drilling a small hole for a cable to go through is going to cause disruption to the property? Apart from obviously the small hole.
The reason I ask is because it sounds like he says I am allowed to do it but with a clause attached and that being as long as no digging is required etc but does the etc also mean no drilling??0 -
Instead of obsessing about it on the internet and dwelling on past experiences I suggest you do the adult thing and ask for clarification, mentioning that there may be a need for the drilling of a small hole adn ask if they would be OK with that. This could be an altogether different stripe of landlord to what you're used to and they could be perfectly reasonable and want very much for you and your family to be happy in the property and therefore rent it for a long time.0

Ok thanks,
I will Email the agent now for them to pass the request to the landlord for clarification.0 -
And this drilling your talking about would be done for example by a Sky engineer or a Virgin Media representative etc or B.T who are qualified to do such jobs and no doubt you have used them to have such services installed at your house and did they not do the job properly?? It's not random drilling at all and leaving random sockets and wires everywhere is it! They do a professional job and leave the property in good condition with all holes sealed around the devices they install.
Not true i'm afraid. The last property we were in, had Virgin Media installed. The clever sod's drilled through the damp course when they installed, causing lots of problems over the course of the next year (and beyond I believe). Not really much of a professional job in my eyes.
And no - i'm not a LL.
SK xAfter 4 years of heartache, 3 rounds of IVF and 1 loss :A - we are finally expecting our miracle Ki11en - May 2014 :j
And a VERY surprise miracle in March 2017!0 -
We already have a virgin box in our new flat. When we moved in I set up virgin & utilities. Our agent phoned us once in so offer their services in doing it but we already had it done. Landlord usually just like to know that these things are being done. I doubt any would say no to a phoneline.
Our ll is on holiday at present so we ae waiting for him to return before asking about putting thinks up in the flat and also the inventory which we still haven't got.0 -
You are obviously not happy with being a tenent of this house, I think the best thing that you can do, is give your notice, it will save you writing scores of complaints about the landlord on this site.
If I had a tenent like you I would willingly cut my losses to get rid of you, If you are like this with your moaning about the rental, spending more time, thinking what else you can complain about, I would hate to be your partner.
For gods sake Grow UP, and save the deposit to buy your own place.
All these complaints you have made, have you actually addressed one of them to the Landlord?0 -
Yes, they have and in the politest and most neutral way possible. I know that because I wrote it for him.0
