Advertising....

We are web traders, we sell on eBya but are moving most of our items onto our website as well and want to try and get more sales through this. My question is...

Who do you use for advertising and how much does it cost? I have mailed The Sun about getting an ad in the paper on their fashion pages and also one of the glossies. I sell ladies underwear (branded decent stuff) and need somewhere that ladies look for fashion ads - but I have had no response to either company, all I asked for is costs.

We have been selling on eBay but want to use more of our own site and give monthly discount codes and the like but where on earth do we start for advertising and for getting people to notice us.

We are giving flyers locally and also the people that buy from us on eBay we are sending a newsletter and giving out flyers with our address and the code and it works as we have had a few sales from eBay customers but I am at a loss on where else to go to advertise. We have submitted out links via Froogle and if you search our listings do come up almost at the top but I realise a lot of people do not want to buy via eBay and a lot of people still assume it is for selling 2nd hand goods. We are getting some traffic from Yahoo but how do we list on other sites. If you search the internet you sometimes get a link via shopping comparison sites, how do you get onto these?

Any help or advice on what you do to advertise will be most appreciated. We was on Scoot and Ask Alix last year but that was a waste of money as we had no sales from there at all!!!

  • get advertising at fashion events....there are loads of fashion magazines about that are great advertising for you.

Do an "open day" find somewhere that is running some sort of catwalk and get some people to model some stuff for you and have leaflets etc ready for afterwards.

Thanks for the link. Yes, I mailed these already - I mailed someone at Cosmo but didn't even get a reply. have seen they have a section of ads in the back of their mags. I am assuming that they are not cheap but we have been trading for 4 years and I am guessing they see us someone new starting out and won't give us the time of day.

I think I will mail everyone though from Nat Mags, I know they are a huge group and if I have no joy from them I'll give IPC a go and see if they can help. Thanks again. C xx

    Hi Alex,

Thank you, that would be great. The mag I get is more focus on brands ather than smaller companies like myself but ANY help is appreciated as it seems like we are a small fish swimming in a huge ocean with this. We do a Saturday market to give out flyers, I do pamper evenings as well but it being able to advertise online. We live in the middle of nowhere so there are not really any fashion events here unless we go into town but I think I might pop up to the local colleges and give out some flyers - that'll be a good idea as we sell discount lingerie so the students might be greateful for the savings. Thanks, you gave me a start with that idea. C x

  • Hi Blue, one thing we have found is e-mails are so often ignored so if we don't have a response within 5 days we send a hard copy by royal mail. From that we ALWAYS get a response!
