ESA Backdated Money.

Hi,

Last week I posted a question regarding my ESA won tribunal. I phoned the DWP on Friday as I had noticed on the decision letter I received from the tribunal it had the wrong NI number. The advisor told me it was ok as it had been linked to my case and everything was in the process of being sorted out. He also told me that payment would be made this coming week, of the backdated pay from April last year.

Does this sound correct? I thought it took about 6 weeks (I'm sure I read that somewhere?) Does anyone have any experience of this and if so how long did it take until you received your backdated payment?

Thanks in advance.

  • Thank you for your helpful reply. Called the jobcentre ESA dept today to see if they needed a note from my Dr, and was told that they haven't received the official paperwork from tribunal yet, so do not understand how the man I spoke to on Friday was able to tell me what he did? Suppose I'll just have to be patient and wait.
  • send them a copy of yours too that what i had to do in the end and they got that eventually i called the trinual and they said they send the reports in batch of 10 normally 3 days after the date so i was told
  • I had a phone call today from a decision maker who told me he would be making a decision on the appeal today before passing it to processing who would call me with how much I am due. I didn't realise that after the Tribunal had made the "official decision" that a JCP employee then had to make another decision... It's all too confusing. When I asked him about this, he assured me it was just a formality and nothing to worry about, that I have definately "won" my claim (although I don't like putting it that way, I just proved my illnesses).

He then went onto say that there could be delays with the processing department, and that I am only one in a very long list of people, which I understand. My concern is that I have rent arrears that I would be keen on paying off this week, housing officer been onto me again. I have *stupidly* told her that I would be able to pay them this week, however now am not so sure after this conversation with JCP today.

I will have to contact my housing officer tomorrow and explain the situation to her, will perhaps send her a copy of my decision notice letter.
