If you have not installed/updates drivers/software recently would put my virtual money on memory.

Get a diagnostic cd from manufacturer and a bootable cd like hiren with memtest86+ on it

I'd agree with most of that, though if I wanted memtest86+ I'd download and boot one of the Ubuntu LiveCDs for an Open Source solution rather than seeking out hirens.

Usually a driver problem, rather than a hardware failure.

Do any of the F8 options work? Do you have a windows disc available?

Do you need any data off it? If not, reinstall windows, from factory restore partition or disc.

If you need data, there are ways of rescuing it, linux boot disc, or usb caddy, or attach to another machine internally

most manufacturers have a diagnostic cd to download and do all the deep scan test, especially memory, cpu, ram and motherboard.

I'd check out the hardware first as it is less time consuming than reinstalling, and less destructive, but each to his own way of working.
