Trying to help out my father with his email, it seems to be playing up and I don't hav a clue whats up.
Every time he tried to write and then send a message an error message appears: yellow highlighted bar below the tabs on the hotmail page (appearing below the send/delete/...etc tabs).
The message reads:
To stop spammers, we sometimes ask you to enter characters before sending your message.
It doesn't seem to matter how long the message is nor who it is sent to and also doesn't seem to matter which computer its being sent from/which network provider.
Any helps? scoured through google for advice and it seems no one else knows the answe either!

I don't use Hotmail much, but I think it is a measure to stop the high amount of spam being sent from hijacked accounts. It looks like there should be some characters displayed on the screen, which you then have to manually confirm by typing them in, before it will let you send the email - a bit like a Captcha that most websites use on their contact forms.0

how is he accessing hotmail ?- from the hotmail link from live messenger, which would take him to the hotmail page, or is he logging into windows live on the internet browser (such as IE - or Firefox)?Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0

why do you not logon as him and try it out? I used systems that also ask this and what pops ups is either a number, a question, or a picture.
Questions range from 1+2=? or Today is M.....? or a picture appears containing codes and numbers which have to be typed into a box. Somtimes security (firewall and web filtering) and java are set up so tight that the questions do not appear.0
